The last couple of versions have really stepped forward of MidJourney, so I thought I’d do a breakdown of all the versions with the same prompt.

Starting with v1 – launched in February 2022

For version 1 this is still impressive, it has the key elements in, especially the sunset.

Version 2 – Launched in April 2022

Version 2 is a bit better with the person, not sure on the bug on the camera though !

Version 3 – Launched in July 2022

Pictures are still blurred and not really details

Version 4 – Launched in November 2022

Version 4 really showed a breakthrough in faces and features, really good quality on the features, although still has a look of computer generated, like it was in a computer game.

Version 5 – Launched in March 2023

Much closer to photo quality and great light handling.

Version 5.1 – Launched in May 2023

The latest version again is super realistic, but the feel is hyper realistic. For example, all these are looking vacant into the distance.

Version 5.1 Raw mode

Version 5.1 also adds a raw mode ( using –style raw) which reduces some of the artistic expression and brings it closer to the prompts. In this, the woman is actually looking at the butterfly which was in the original prompt,

This really shows how MidJourney has improved over the last 18 months. I’m especially liking the raw mode which is truly realistic. I’m wondering what the next 6 months will bring.
